Winter sun flights from Central Europe – 2026–27

When Central Europe turns grey, a few hours on a plane buys real daylight. The Canary Islands, southern Spain, Malta, Cyprus, Egypt's Red Sea coast and Dubai are the classic winter-sun escapes, and most of them now have low-cost flights from our region.

Below are the cheapest return fares we've seen recently for winter-sun destinations, departing between 1 November and mid-March for three nights or more.

Which destination is actually warm?

The Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura) are the safest bet in Europe, with daytime temperatures typically in the low twenties even in January. Dubai and Egypt's Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh are warmer still, but flights are longer. Málaga, Malta, Cyprus and the Algarve are mild rather than hot in mid-winter, around 15–19 °C by day: great for walking and city breaks, less reliable for the beach.

Marrakech has sunny days but cold nights in December and January, so pack a warm layer.

Getting the price right

Winter sun is busiest around Christmas, New Year and the February school holidays, so those weeks cost more. Late November, early December and the second half of January are usually the cheapest windows.

On long flights, compare the total cost: a cheap fare without a cabin bag or seat on a five-hour flight can end up dearer than a full-service ticket.
