Cheap Christmas-market flights from Central Europe – 2026

Christmas markets are the best excuse for a short winter break: mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, handmade decorations and old squares lit up for Advent. Most of the famous markets are a short, cheap flight from Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw or Kraków, and a Thursday-to-Sunday trip is usually enough.

The fares below are the cheapest return trips we've seen in recent searches for market cities, departing between 20 November and 23 December for up to a week. They refresh every four hours, and anything older than three days is hidden.

When to go

Most big markets open in the second half of November and run until 23 or 24 December; some, such as Prague's Old Town Square and Budapest's Vörösmarty tér, stay open into early January. Nuremberg's Christkindlesmarkt traditionally opens on the Friday before the first Sunday of Advent, which in 2026 is 27 November. Always check the official city or market website for this year's dates and opening hours.

Weekday visits are calmer. Saturdays in December are packed, especially in Vienna, Strasbourg and Nuremberg, and hotel prices rise with them.

Where to fly

Vienna has around twenty markets, from Rathausplatz to the quieter Spittelberg and Schönbrunn. Prague and Kraków combine a big main-square market with an easy, walkable old town. Strasbourg calls itself the capital of Christmas; the nearest big airport is Strasbourg itself, but fares are often cheaper into Basel–Mulhouse or Frankfurt. Cologne, Nuremberg and Dresden are Germany's classics, and Munich or Berlin can be a cheaper gateway with a train onward.

From Hungary, Vienna and Bratislava are also easy by train, so a flight makes most sense for the German, French and Polish markets.
